Author's Notes: Ha, clearly the picture warped in my head when I went to write this. It doesn't look like I thought it did when I go back to it now. Oh well!

The women are waiting anxiously when the knights ride back in. Not for them; nobody waits for them.

They ride on, horses sweaty and shaking. Behind them, red and gold, come the Roman soldiers.

The women step closer; trembling hands lift up lanterns to expose faces. Galahad feels their fearful hope and turns his dirty, bloody face aside.

He thinks all Romans are bastards, and these Briton women fools, but he knows some woman will not be greeting her lover home tonight - and empathy flares.

Painfully, Galahad thinks of the brother he lost last week.

It's not so very different.
